The Labyrinth
2012
Performance, live video feed, four-channel video surveillance, nail labyrinth installation, TV, book, crate
3 hour durational performance
The Labyrinth seeks to transform an internal psychological state of anxiety into a shared physical and phenomenological experience. Inspired by Jorge Luis Borges’ poem El Laberinto, the performer inhabits the roles protagonist and antagonist, complicating the relationship between Ariadne, Theseus, and the Minotaur within the construct of the labyrinth. Over the duration of the performance the architectural installation of the labyrinth is ritually destroyed, as the performer’s movements become increasingly frenetic and frenzied.
